ARISE for the Ancient Forest | Protect Fairy Creek
April 1, 2021
Our film initially was released alongside an injunction granted from the BC court to Teal Jones to enable them to forcibly remove forest protectors who have been sacrificing their worlds at home to stand and defending some of the last of the 2.7% remaining Old-growth on Vancouver Island.
We have worked in collaboration with filmmaker, Ian MacKenzie, depicting through this short film how much we truly depend on these Ancient Forests for our survival as well. We stand up for the animals, insects, plant life, and last intact watershed that are all deeply nourished by these forests, especially the Old Growth.
These ancient forests' interdependent biodiversities are endangered and at risk, by the clear-cutting approach, Teal Jones follows in its daily working practices who are leaving devastation in their wake.
We have made this mini-documentary to amplify elder of the Pacheedaht First Nation William (Bill) Jones and Hereditary Cheif, Victor Peter voices, echoing them as they hold a deeply connected place of reverence and remembrance of the sacredness of the land.
We have released the full interviews and speeches of William (Bill) Jones, Victor Peter, Bobby Arbess, Victoria Husband, and Gregg McElroy alongside this short documentary (link here) to give more information to you and give rise to each of their voices in full. There is also three additional speeches from The Last Stand on March 27th. Paul Manley of the Green Party and the Rainforest Flying Squad’s Client Committee - Kathleen Code and Carol Tootle.
Our deepest gratitude to Rainforest Flying Squad for their ongoing dedication to the Fairy Creek Blockade. We invite you to join alongside these brave forest protectors in whatever way you can!
